ちょっと小難しい話をしますと、
レコーディングの機材の進化する時期ってのがありまして、
1960年後半にモノラル音声からステレオに発展し、
1980年半ばにはアナログテープからデジタルテープに進化しました。
僕の記憶では1982~3年くらいにコンパクトディスクが登場したので、
その辺りから急激に音質は良くなってるはず。
逆にいわば、その時代までの音源って
「ああ、モノラルだ」
とか「アナログテープの音だな」
というのは割とわかりやすいですが、
1980年も半ば以降の音源って、そこから40年たった
今でも大きく違うかといえば、大きく違わないように
思うんです。
もちろん細かくは違うんですがね。
まあ、いい。
そんなことはさておき、
今回のモーニング娘。のシングル曲は
とにかく「すっごい！」わけです。
この曲（歌詞も）を作ったのは数年前。
コロナ以前だったような・・・。
時の経つのは早い・・・。
当時、ある程度アレンジを進めてましたが、
途中で完全にストップしてました。
僕の中での仕上げの音は見えてたんですが、
歌うのってタイミングがあるんです。
そのタイミングが見えてない時、
そういう時は止めちゃうんです。
今回は譜久村卒業のメモリアルソングの一つになるわけだし、
やっぱかっこよく行きたいやん。
あ。あの曲だ！
ということで、この「すっごい！」曲のお出ましです！
そこから今回のシングル曲へと進化させるべく、
曲も歌詞もアレンジも2023年秋バージョンに
修正、変更し、仕上げてったわけです！
テーマは、
「新しいのに懐かしい。
よくよく聴くと奥深い。
でも、でも、一般的には楽しくって踊りたくなる。」
要は説明なんて不必要でノリノリになる！
それがポップスの醍醐味なんだと思ってます。
この曲には僕の作曲人生の集大成的な
「いろいろ」が詰まっています。
手応えというか、楽しかった〜。
作った時から男性ボイスのリフレインは
頭の中で鳴ってました。
まあ、本来なら僕でRECしたかったのかもしれません。
が、でも、とにかく低音の声がほしかったので、
今回はプッチモニの時の「わっはははっは〜」
や「OH BABY！」の低い声をやってくれた
アレンジャーでもある（この曲のアレンジャーではない）松原憲氏にお願いしました。
声ものの音源って基本的に大好きで、
ボニーMの「Daddy cool」とかアラベスクの「Peppermint Jack」
に出てくる声も好きだし、
その昔でいうとJohnny Cymbal の「MR. BASS MAN」
とか最高です！
で、それ以外にも大好きなHot Bloodの「Soul Dracula」
やマイケルジャクソンの「Thriller」の低音ボイス、
このあたりが最高です！
こういう曲たちをリスペクトしながら、
今回こだわったのは、生ブラスです。
あ、そういうことを書くと生ブラスのことだけに
着目されるから、それも違う。
ベースのフレーズもいかついし、
ギターのオクターブカッティングもいかついし、
単なる「つんく♂ファンク」だなんて言葉で解決させたくないほどの
僕の中のスマッシュソングです。
これ以上マニアックなフレーズを入れると通好みすぎてしまうし、
これ以上簡単だと、「ディスコ」とか「ユーロビート」
みたいな言葉で片付けられてしまう。
それも違う。
間奏明けの落ちサビのコード展開は
アレンジャーの平田祥一郎が考えてくれたんやけど、
泣きそうになるほどの浮遊する感じのこの展開。
羽があったら、完全に空を飛んでます。
この落ちサビの「Uh」で伸ばした２小節は
一回仕上げたあとで、どうしても足したくなって足したので、
譜久村に最後の最後に歌い直してもらってます。
ちなみに、8月の時点でリリース日が決まってましたが、
おそらく「社内向け資料」にはすでに楽曲タイトルが「Fever Whenever 上等」
で記載され進んでいました。
しかし、僕の頭の中で鳴ってた低音ボイスの「すっごい〜！』を入れたあとに、
あかん、タイトル変えなきゃ！
って思ったんです。
そもそものタイトルも気に入ってたんですが、
「なんて読みますか？」とか
カタカナで書く場合「ウエネバーですか？」「フェネバーにしますか？」
など、細かい問題が多く、
うむむ〜
って思ってたのもあったし、
そもそも過去を振り返っても、
「ヒット曲にはそんな苦労はない。もっとシンプルにしなきゃ」
って思い出して・・・。
そう思い出すと、ずっと「タイトルどうしよ」
「もう正式に社内向け資料に歌詞とタイトルを提出してるし、みんな面倒だろうな」
って思いながらも、「いや〜でも、覚えられないのはあかんよな」
って我慢できなくなって、変えてもらいました。

メンバーもきっと驚かせてしまったと思います。
だって、この低音ボイスの入った音源が届いたのは
MV撮影の当日だったからね。
まあ、僕的にもいつもならダンスはこう進んでます、
とか、MV はこんなコンテです！みたいなのがくるので、
工程が見えるんですが、今回は全然聞いてなかったので、
気がついたらMV当日だったようです。
と、まあ、曲のこと語ると止まらないので、一旦歌詞の話に進みます。
僕たちプロの仕事って、「難し」そうなことを「簡単」に感じさせたり、
「当たり前」のことを「気難しく」表現したり。
それがプロってやつです。
今回の歌詞はどうですか？
今回の曲は当たり前のことをノリノリにして、
意味を感じさせない作戦です（笑）。
言ってることは、ある種普遍的なことで、
それがリズムに乗ることによって、
意味が入ってこないようにしてある。
で、カラオケ等で、ゆっくり歌詞を振り返って、
「へ〜」って思ってもらうってやつです。
貴重な青春時代をモーニング娘。として過ごしてくれる
彼女たちには、いつもリスペクトしかないんですが、
とにかく楽しんで、とにかく輝いてほしい。
僕から彼女たちに思うことは、それが一番です。
I'll talk about something a bit complex here. There were times when recording equipment evolved, moving from monaural audio to stereo in the late 1960s and from analog tape to digital tape in the mid-1980s. I remember that compact discs appeared around 1982-1983, and from that point, the audio quality improved significantly. On the other hand, the audio sources from the mid-1980s and beyond, even 40 years later, don't seem to have changed drastically.
Of course, there are subtle differences, but overall, they remain quite similar.
Anyway, setting that aside, the single song by Morning Musume this time is simply "amazing!"
This song (including the lyrics) was created several years ago, and it was before the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Time passes quickly...
At that time, I had made some progress in arranging the song, but I came to a complete stop at some point.
I could see how I wanted the final sound to be in my mind, but singing has its timing. When that timing is not clear, that's when I stop.
This song will become one of the memorial songs for Fukumura's graduation, so I wanted it to be really cool.
Ah, that song!
So, this "amazing" song is making its debut!
From there, to evolve this single song to its present state, I made revisions and changes to the song, lyrics, and arrangement to create the 2023 autumn version!
The theme is "new but nostalgic. When you listen closely, it's deep. But, generally, it's fun, and you want to dance."
In other words, there's no need for explanations; it's meant to be a fun and catchy pop song. That's the essence of pop music, in my opinion.
This song contains the culmination of my composition career, filled with various elements. It was a rewarding and enjoyable process.
From the moment I composed it, I already had the refrain with a male voice in my mind.
Well, maybe I wanted to record it myself. But, anyway, I needed a deep voice, so I asked Ken Matsubara, who is also an arranger (but not for this song) and provided the low voices like "wahahaha" from Petitmoni or "OH BABY!" from back then.
I generally love voice-based music sources, such as the voices in "Daddy Cool" by Boney M or "Peppermint Jack" by Arabesque. In the past, I've enjoyed songs like "MR. BASS MAN" by Johnny Cymbal, and they are all great! Apart from that, I also love the low voice in "Soul Dracula" by Hot Blood or "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. These are the best!
While respecting such songs, what I emphasized in this song was live brass. If I talk too much about live brass, people might focus only on that, and that's not the point. The bassline is aggressive, the guitar octave cutting is sharp, and it's not just "Tsunku♂ funk" – I didn't want to resolve it with such a word. If I add more esoteric phrases, it becomes too niche, and if I make it simpler, it's categorized as "disco" or "Eurobeat."
That's not it. After the instrumental break, the chord progression in the descending chorus was suggested by the arranger Shouichirou Hirata. The feeling of floating in this part is so intense that it made me almost cry. If we had wings, we'd be flying through the sky. The two bars extended with "Uh" in the descending chorus were added later because I really wanted it. Fukumura had to re-record it at the very end.
By the way, the release date was already decided in August, but probably in "internal documents," the song was already mentioned as "Fever Whenever Joutou." However, after I added the low voice with "sugoi~," I thought, "I have to change the title!" I actually liked the original title, but there were many details to consider, like "How do you read it?" or "If written in katakana, is it 'Uenebaa desu ka?' or 'Fenebaa ni shimasu ka?'" and more. It was a bit of a problem. So, I changed it because I couldn't stand the thought that people wouldn't remember it. Thank you, everyone, for your cooperation!
I'm sure it surprised the members as well. Because I received the audio source with this low voice on the day of the music video shoot.
Well, usually, we'd have a dance that's been worked out, or we'd have a storyboard for the music video. These steps are usually visible, but this time, I didn't listen at all, and I realized it was the day of the music video shoot.
Anyway, if I talk about the song, I won't stop, so let's move on to the discussion about the lyrics.
Our job as professionals is to make difficult things look "easy" and express "common" things in a "finicky" way.
That's what being a professional is all about.
What about the lyrics this time?
This time, the song takes something common and makes it fun without conveying its meaning. The lyrics express something kind of universal, and by riding the rhythm, it prevents the meaning from coming through.
So, in karaoke or elsewhere, you can sing along and have fun, and even if you take a closer look at the lyrics and think, "Oh, I see," it's still fun.
I have nothing but respect for these girls, who are spending their precious youth as Morning Musume.
I want them to enjoy themselves and shine brightly, above all.
What I think about them is that it's the most important.
